Introduction

Retriever ("we," "our," or "us") is operated by Alchemy Technologies. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your information when you use our mobile application (the "App"). By using Retriever, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Email address
  • Password (encrypted and securely stored), or your Apple ID identifier if you sign in with Apple
  • Subscription and billing status

Voice Recordings and Notes

When you use Retriever's core recording feature:

  • Your audio is transmitted to our AI services provider for transcription and processing
  • Audio recordings are NOT stored on our servers after processing. Once transcribed, the audio itself is discarded, we retain only the resulting text
  • We store: the raw transcript, the cleaned/structured version of your note, an automatically generated title, tags, a summary, and a numerical representation of the note's meaning (an "embedding") used to make your notes searchable
  • When you ask Retriever a question, your spoken question is transcribed and used to search your own past notes and generate an answer; the question itself is processed the same way as a note

Technical and Usage Information

We automatically collect:

  • Device information (operating system, app version)
  • App usage data: which features you use, how the app performs, and where errors occur, collected via our product analytics and error services provider
  • IP address for security purposes

How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Create and manage your account
  • Transcribe, structure, and organize your voice notes
  • Retrieve relevant past notes and generate answers to your spoken questions
  • Process your subscription and manage your free trial or paid access or promotional access
  • Diagnose and fix technical problems
  • Understand how the App is used so we can improve it
  • Communicate with you about your account or the service
  • Ensure security and prevent abuse

Third-Party Service Providers

OpenAI

  • We use OpenAI's API to process your voice recordings and questions
  • Your audio and text are sent to OpenAI for processing purposes only
  • We only use their developer API, which by OpenAI's policy does not use your data to train their models

Supabase

  • We use Supabase for authentication and database services
  • Your account information, notes, and associated data are stored on Supabase's secure infrastructure, scoped so that only you can access your own data
  • Supabase processes data in accordance with their own privacy policy and security standards

RevenueCat and Apple

  • We use RevenueCat to manage subscriptions and free trials
  • Your subscription status is linked to your account via a unique identifier. RevenueCat also receives your email address so we can look up and manage your subscription if you contact us for support
  • All payment processing is handled directly by Apple through the App Store. We never receive or store your payment card information

Sentry

  • We use Sentry to automatically detect and diagnose crashes and errors in the App
  • Error reports may include limited technical context (such as your user ID, device information, and the app state at the time of an error) to help us fix problems

PostHog

  • We use PostHog to understand how people use Retriever, which features are used, where users drop off, and general usage patterns
  • This data is associated with your account but is used in aggregate to improve the product, not to build an individual profile for advertising purposes

Data Retention

  • Audio recordings: Not stored. Processed in real time and discarded immediately after transcription
  • Notes (transcripts, cleaned text, titles, tags, summaries, embeddings): Retained until you delete the individual note or your account
  • Account Information: Retained until you delete your account
  • Usage and Analytics Data: Retained for up to 12 months
  • Account Deletion: When you delete your account from within the App, your account is deactivated immediately and your data is permanently and irreversibly deleted from our active systems within 30 days

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Update your account information at any time
  • Delete individual notes or your entire account and all associated data
  • Request a copy of your data
  • Withdraw consent for data processing (by deleting your account)

Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data:

  • Passwords are encrypted using industry-standard hashing
  • All data transmission uses HTTPS encryption
  • Credentials are never exposed in the App
  • Database access is restricted per-user, so no user can access another user's data
  • Regular security review and monitoring

Age Restrictions

Retriever is intended for users who are 13 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover that a user under 13 has provided personal information, we will delete it promptly.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by:

  • Posting the new Privacy Policy in the App or on our website
  • Updating the "Last Updated" date
  • Sending an email notification for material changes

Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

No Sale of Personal Data

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for marketing purposes.

Retriever is not currently distributed in the European Economic Area (EEA) or United Kingdom.
