FAQ
Questions, answered.
What is Puter?
Puter is a voice assistant that lives on your Mac. Hold the right ⌘ key, ask a question, and let go. Puter answers on screen and out loud, and remembers the conversation so you can follow up.
Is Puter private?
Speech recognition, the language model and the voice all run on your Mac, and your conversations stay there. Web search is optional, and when it is on, only the search query or a public page address leaves your Mac. You can switch it off in Settings.
What do I need to run it?
A Mac with Apple Silicon running macOS 13 or later. Puter currently understands and speaks English only.
Can it control my apps or read my files?
No. Puter is built for quick questions while you work, not for controlling apps or reading your files. For finding files by describing them, there is Retriever for macOS.
